Please note that student hostels are usually situated not far from universities, and you will not need to use public transport on a daily basis.

WEATHER IN RUSSIA

 

Most of the country has a continental climate, with long winters and brief summers. Temperatures in January are around 6°C on the southeastern shore of the Black Sea.

Temperatures from May to September are from 23°C to 35°C, and nights vary from 10°C to 23°C. Springs and even early autumns can be unpredictable with snow flurries, and temperature about -5°C is possible in April and September. Be sure to take waterproof shoes with an umbrella for spring or autumn, since it may be raining. In winter Moscow and St. Petersburg temperatures are between -7°C to 0°C. Note that due to dry climate the cold is hardly noticeable. It is advisable to take your warmest clothes, boots and hats with you.

SAFETY IN RUSSIA

Hostels and universities are equipped with web cameras and security systems, so there is no risk in leaving your personal belongings there.
