Established in 1935, Kursk State Medical University is ranked as one of the top 10 best Russian Medical Universities. Among its many achievements, KSMU was the first University in Russia to offer students a full Medical training program in the English language. 
Within the structure of KSMU we also have a Research Institute of Ecological Medicine as well as a consulting diagnostic polyclinic and medical institute. To date KSMU has trained over 25,000 medical professionals across 14 faculties and 67 departments. 
The staff body consists of 633 academic staff of which there are 333 Ph.D and 92 D.Sc academics serving our 6,400 students. The university boasts a well stocked library with a subscription of more than 500,000 journals, books and publications. The campus includes four teaching buildings as well as a five student halls of residence. Students also enjoy the recreational facilities onsite including three sports halls and a shooting range.

 International Acclaim

Russian higher medical education has gained a remarkable reputation on the world stage due to high educational standards with advanced and sophisticated teaching methods and scientific approaches. A Medical Degree from KSMU is recognized by the World Health Organization (W.H.O), and General Medical Council (G.M.C) of major European countries, including Great Britain and France and other international medical boards.

 Leading Russian medical universities occupy prominent positions in the international rating by the UNESCO and World Health Organization, including Kursk State Medical University. KSMU is also recognized by JPA Malaysia, MC Sri-Lanka and other countries.

Socio-scientific subdivisions are also available at the University: Central problem commission, scientific problem commissions, thesis councils, young scientists’ council, student scientific society.

INFORMATION FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

 Courses for International Students

 KSMU was the first university in Russia to offer full medical degree training in English. Under English medium KSMU has the right to train specialists on the spheres of pre-diploma (pre-medicine/course), diploma (M.D / undergraduate) and post-diploma (post-graduate) education.

 Student of Ordinary Level (or any equivalent).

 KSMU provides the opportunity for the students with O-Level qualifications or A-Level with low marks to proceed towards the Undergraduate program by enrolling onto the pre-diploma (pre-medicine/course). The duration of this course 7 to 10 months and will prepare you for futher studies at KSMU.

 The subject to be studied in the pre-medicine English Medium:

1- Russian Language

2- Mathematics

3- Biology

4- Chemistry

5- Physics

 Student of Advance Level (or any equivalents)
Applicants with A-Level education certificate may proceed to diploma (undergraduate program) either Medicine, Pharmacy or Stomatology (Dentistry).

MEDICINE

The program is designed to train qualified physicians oriented to the practice of medicine. Standardised patients are used to evaluate medical students and residents ability to take patient histories, communicate with patients, and determine diagnosis and treatment. The curriculum offers a six-year program leading to a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.

 PHARMACY

 The faculty prepares the students for career in pharmacy with a thorough understanding of drugs and diseases. The curriculum promotes interaction between pharmacists and other health professionals. The pharmacy curriculum offers a professional five-year program leading to a Master of Pharmacy (Pharm. D.) degree.

 STOMATOLOGY

 The faculty offers a five-year program of Stomatology. The teaching-learning process is meant to emphasise the development of practical competence. Careful attention is given to the development of the students personality and work habits, stressing on personal skill that are key factors for successful careers.

 Undergraduate (Transfer-credit)

 

This program allows the applicants with any incomplete B.Sc. or any equivalent qualification of 1st Degree to be accepted in undergraduate program. The administration office will process the applicants degree and will give the result concerned with the starting course of the academic year that one can proceed.

 Russian Medium Courses

 All applicant choose to study in Russian medium should study 7 to 10 months the Pre-University course in the preparatory faculty.

After the Intensive Preparation Program you may choose one of the diploma education program as listed below:

* Medical Faculty – general medicine. Duration of the course – 6 years.

* Pharmaceutical Faculty – pharmacy. Duration of the course – 5 years.

* Stomatological Faculty – stomatology. Duration of the course – 5 years.

* Biotechnological Faculty – biotechnology. Duration of the course – 5 years.

* Nursing Faculty – nursing. Duration of the course – 5 years.

* Faculty of Social Work – social work. Duration of the course – 5 years.

* Faculty of Clinical Psychology – clinical psychology. Duration of the course – 6 years.

* Faculty of Economy and Management in Public Health – economy and management in public health. Duration of the course – 5 years.

* Faculty of Biotechnology (chemical technology of biologically active substances) – biotechnology. Duration of the course – 5 years.

* Faculty of Preventive Medicine – preventive medicine. Duration of the course – 5 years.

* Faculty of Pediatrics – Pediatrics. Duration of the course – 5 years.

Post-Graduate

KSMU undergoes the post-graduate program as well, to offer graduates applicants to further their studies.

 Kursk City

Overview

Kursk is one of Russia’s ancient cities and today is a vibrant and lively place with a warm and welcoming population. Many of our students comment on how safe they feel while walking around the city – even after dark. The city has something to offer everyone, no matter what their interests or passions, from history to art and sports and beyond.

 Geography / Climate

The Kursk region is situated in the centre of the European part of Russia, within the forest and steppe zone on a hilly plain divided by ravines, river valleys. The climate is moderately continental. The region has a rather dense river network. Water tourism and fishing lovers are offered the rivers: the Seim, the Psyol, the Tuskar and others.

 History

Kursk was first mentioned in the chronicles of 1032; the oldest building in Kursk is the upper church of the Trinity Monastery built in 1752. The Kursk region is also the homeland of many gifted people: navigator G.I. Shelikhov, Great Russian actor M.S. Shepkin, distinguished astronomer F.A. Semenov, brilliant physicist V.V. Petrov, writer Ye.I. Noskov, sculptor V. Klykov, talented poet N.N. Aseev, painter A.A. Deineka, composer G.V. Sviridov and many others.

 Culture / Arts

Kursk State University is home to the Russian Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of conductor and trumpet soloist Sergei Proskourin. Pushkin Theater is also located in the center of the city and has a permanent company as well as visiting shows.

There are many lively venues around Kursk where you can meet with friends, relax and unwind. If you prefer more active entertainment then you will find no shortage of new and exciting places to explore in and around the city itself.
