Institute of Biology and Biomedicine

The Institute of Biology & Biomedicine (IBBM) was established in December 2014 by incorporating the UNN Faculty of Biology, Institute of Living Systems, Botanical Garden & Institute of Molecular Biology & Ecology. The purpose of such integration was to enhance the quality of biology education in accordance with the modern requirements as the demand for graduates in this field is growing in the Russian and international labor market. IBBM actively introduces modern methods of teaching, invites visiting professors from world top universities giving their lecture courses to the Institute’s students. Leading scientists are invited by IBBM for biomedical research & increase both in the level of scientific research and in the publication activity in leading international journals. IBBM has six research centers, where research projects are organised in cooperation with the Institute’s academic departments. This system assures rapid integration of students into the scientific environment and gives them access to knowledge at the forefront of research. Students have the opportunity to undergo practical training at IBBM research centers and in the laboratories of our partners. Another specific activity area for IBBM is the development & commercialization of biotechnologies, in particular biomedical technologies and neurotechnologies. To this end, IBBM develops cooperation with commercial enterprises and organises its own small innovative companies. Taking into account current global trends, one can confidently assert that the business in the sphere of biotechnologies may become driver of the economy of the future.
