 UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS

For the first 3 years of training students of Siberian State Medical University are mainly focused on theoretical subjects at the departments of biology, medical physics, chemistry, biochemistry, human anatomy, histology, physiology, pathology, microbiology, Latin and foreign languages, social sciences. During the last 3.5 years students are offered extensive practical training in various fields of internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, public health and prevention. One of the most distinguished features of our medical education is complete practical student-patient experience in all clinical classes. This provides a unique opportunity for students to be well skilled in modern diagnostic and treatment approaches.

Development of research skills based on modern methodology and up-to-date equipment is another important part of the program. All divisions of the department provide facilities for students to be involved in research under the guidance of the advisors from the Faculty.

 MEDICAL FACULTY

The Department of General Medicine in Siberian State Medical University is the university’s oldest department. It consists of 29 theoretical and clinical divisions. The duration of study is 6 years.

Medical Faculty of Siberian State Medical University is currently not only the leader in the Siberian State Medical University, but also the largest among the faculties of all universities in Tomsk considering the number of doctors, candidates of sciences, members of state academies and departments. Throughout its history, the faculty has prepared more than 20 thousand. Doctors.  PEDIATRICS FACULTY

At the Siberian State Medical University Faculty of extensive clinical base – own children’s clinic and the department, located at the base of major institutions, such as the Regional Children’s Hospital and Regional Perinatal Center. The graduates successfully work in health – care institutions, clinical centers and medical schools in all regions of Russia, CIS and far abroad. Most importantly, the pediatric faculty applicants are aiming to work exactly with children, so there is always a special spirit in the faculty, we can say “pediatric brotherhood.” Small contingent of students allows you to organize the educational process in many ways individually. This contributes to better learning of theoretical knowledge, the successful development of practical skills.

Pediatric Faculty of Siberian State Medical University opened in 1944. For more than 70 years of history here were trained about 11 000 experts, who are daily in children’s clinics, hospitals, maternity hospitals and perinatal centers save thousands of children’s lives, conduct transactions and advice to their young patients and their parents. Pediatrician – the most responsible and difficult profession in the consulting business, because to approach the child can only caring and sociable people. Pediatrician engaged in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases in children and adolescents (from birth to 18 years).

 PHARMACY FACULTY

At the disposal of the departments of Siberian State Medical University of the Faculty of the major production bases for practical training – a branch of scientific-production association “Microgen” in Tomsk “Virion”, Tomsk innovative company “Artlife” training laboratory in the company “Astrafarm” study pharmacy – the oldest pharmacy in Tomsk Governorate Tomsk regional pharmacy warehouse. Already during their studies, students have the opportunity to develop and produce a pilot batch of pharmaceutical products in the center of Siberian State Medical University introduction of technology where today 3 clinical trials of the drug, developed at the Faculty of Pharmacy.

As part of the Siberian State Medical University in 1941, operates the first in Siberia and the Far East, Siberian State Medical University Faculty of Pharmacy, today it is a leading center for training pharmacists Russia. More than 8000 specialists have graduated here, among them 200 doctors and candidates of sciences.

 BIOLOGICAL FACULTY

Medical Biochemistry examines the chemical processes in the body that determine all aspects of human life, these studies are the basis for the development of new areas of medical science. Along with access to fundamental knowledge students master the most sophisticated methods of biochemical research. Doctors biochemists demand in research centers throughout Russia, work in practical public health physicians in clinical laboratory diagnostics, doctors of Forensic Medicine, virologists, geneticists, heads of biochemical and clinical laboratories. Graduates work at the Institute for Human Gene Therapy, Harvard, Vanderbilt, Stanford University in the US, the Institute of Biochemistry at the Max Planck in Germany and many others.

Faculty opened in 1975 and is the only one in the Urals, the training of personnel for research institutes of medical and biological and medical fields. Training involves a combination of scientific disciplines fundamental to clinical medicine. Faculty trains professional scientists: every fifth graduate is a doctor or a PhD. A distinctive feature of the training is to a large amount of independent work, the emphasis on the scientific activities of students, they receive practical skills of researchers. Graduates of the Siberian State Medical University after graduation can enter a PhD program.  The Department of Professional Development and Retraining is one of the largest centers of additional professional education in the Russian Federation, it comprises 11 departments and 9 courses where 77 specialties are available for further training.

  ABOUT TOMSK CITY

Tomsk is a city in Western Siberia, the administrative center of Tomsk region. It is situated on the right bank of the River Tom, 50 km from the place of its confluence with the River Ob.

Area – 300 sq.km. Population is approximately 560,000 people.

Tomsk is an industrial center. Its leading spheres are the oil and gas industry, instrumentation, energetics, engineering, pharmaceutical and food industries. Tomsk is an educational, scientific, cultural and innovation center. The city has museums of local history and art, art galleries, exhibition halls, the Tomsk Museum of Wooden Architecture, Museum of the History of Tomsk, Memorial Museum “Remand prison of the NKVD”, museums in universities, and the Siberian Botanical Garden. Spectators can visit the Theater of Drama, Theater of Young Spectators, Theater of puppet and actor “Skomorokh”, chamber theater, theater “Versiya”, and the theater of living puppets “2 plus Q”. The Philharmonic has an organ hall, there are several cinemas and there is a Palace of Shows and Sports. There are Orthodox churches, a mosque, a synagogue, a Catholic church and a Lutheran church In Tomsk. National-cultural autonomies and centers of national culture were created – about 25 associations in all. 

 WEATHER CONDITIONS AND SUITABLE CLOTHES TO BRING WITH YOU

Summer in Tomsk is warm but not hot, so when coming to Tomsk in July or August take a sweater and a pair of jeans with you. In August the weather is getting colder, it often rains.

In November everything is covered in snow. Spring may be warm and little rainy, but sometimes temperatures can remain low till the middle of June.

 From September till mid-November you will need:

• a light jacket (without a polyester padding) or trench coat
• a warm polyester-padded jacket or coat
• boots (without fur)
• a warm sweater
• jeans
• sneakers and a warm tracksuit with a jacket or hoodie (for outdoor PE classes)
• a wool hat
• gloves
• warm socks

 From November till mid-March you will need:

• a very warm jacket or coat (with a fur, duck feather or double polyester padding)
• very warm winter boots with fur inside
• a warm hat (it should cover the entire head and ears)
• a large warm scarf (it should be large enough to cover your nose and mouth in very cold weather)
• mittens (knitted or fur-padded)
• warm wool socks
• warm tights/underpants/thermal underwear
• warm sweaters, jumpers, dresses and jeans/pants

 The heating season in Tomsk lasts from September to May, so it is very warm in apartments and lecture halls. The temperature inside is usually around +25, regardless of the temperature outside. 

COMMUTING, MEALS AND ACCOMMODATION EXPENSES

 Tomsk is a small and cozy city with a developed transport infrastructure.

ACCOMMODATION

Students are offered to live in well heated and fully furnished rooms. All the rooms are provided with beds, mattress, pillows, blankets, desk, chair, heater, lighting, the Internet access and telephone. Male and female students
live separately on the different floors.
All hostels are protected by the security. There are special rooms for students where they can socialize, have fun and make new friends.
