About Volgograd State Medical University
The Volgograd State Medical University is considered as a point of highest tribute and respect by its students, the university is known and acclaimed for its standards and reputation world over.
It is proud of its highly-qualified teaching staff, advanced researchers and experienced physicians whose names are world- renowned. It is currently headed by a prominent Russian scientist and Academician of the Russian Academy for Medical Sciences, Professor Vladimir I. Petrov.

Since the beginning of its educative journey the University ranks high among the medical schools of the Russian Federation. The University has been training international students since 1962.
The University was started as Stalingrad Medical Institute, founded in 1935. In 1993 it got the status of the Academy, and in 2003 it was granted the university status.
The Volgograd State Medical University has been a active participant on many international projects promoting medical research. This adheres it with immense international recognisation. It’s been visited by the ambassadors of the USA, Malaysia, India, the People’s Republic of China, Brunei, Bangladesh, and top officials of Medical and Dental Councils of different countries.
At its disposal the University has 4 educational buildings, 5 large multi profile hospitals, Cancer Centre, Heart Centre, First Aid Hospitals, 3 Infectious Disease hospitals, 5 Dental Hospitals, 5 Obs and Gynaec Hospitals, 4 Physiotherapy centers, Tuberculosis centre, 3 Orthopedic centers all admitting a total of more than 7000 patients. The Heart centre is one of the best in the field of Cardiology in Russian Federation. Students from 85 Countries of Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin, America have studied at this University.
Education syllabus is oriented to individually work with students. Classes are held in batches of 8 students per teacher endowing individual student attention allowing students to become proficient in all disciplines.
Indian students have been seeking admission at this university since 1982. More than 700 Indian doctors have graduated from this university and are practicing in India. Graduates from this University work in 107 countries including USA, Great Britain, France, Germany, Czech Republic, India and Arab countries.
The Volgograd State Medical University has built up relationships and ties with a numerous foreign universities – the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (USA), Albert Ludwigs Universitaet (Freiburg, Germany), Martin-Luther Halle-Wittenberg Universitaet (Germany), Belgian, French, Chinese universities, etc. This collaboration has been fostering the advance of medical science in fields such as family medicine, poison control, family planning and reproductive health, arterial hypertension, epidemiology, tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment, pharmacology, pharmacy, etc. One of the latest developments is the newly set up Russian-American Family Practice Clinic which is a unique clinic of its type in the whole of the south of Russia.
The University has also been collaborating with the World Federation for Medical Education, World Health Organization (WHO), UNESCO, British Council, United States Agency for International Development, The American International Health Alliance, and participating in a wide range of joint international research projects.
FACULTY OF GENERAL MEDICINE
Since it’s inception, the University has attracted highly qualified staff with an experience of teaching in many destinations of the world. It is mandatory at the University for Staffers to continually enhance and update their skills and methodology by undergoing short courses or undertaking longer courses overseas.
The teaching staff of the University has 763 highly qualified professors and instructors with 11 academicians and 401 associate professors. Most of them having Ph.D.s or other advanced degrees.
The academic programs are run by 66 departments of the University.
At present about 5000 citizens of Russia and countries of the former Soviet Union and 900 international students from Asia, Africa, Latin and South America, Germany and Arab countries are pursuing their dreams at the University. The growing Indian presence there has also seen the advent of many Indian companies establish there base here.
Accomodation

The pre-clinical courses are provided at the 4 main buildings of the university while the clinical courses are provided at 15 multiprofile clinics equipped with up-to-date facilities. The main building houses a well-stocked library with over 700 000 books in different languages. International students can also get a lot of information from a variety of journals from UK, US, Germany and so on. To facilitate students the library works till 19:00 in the evening on weekdays. The university also provides free Internet service for all students. Students also have the opportunity to conduct research at the different departments of the university.
Hostel9>
The University provides 3 hostels with most of the facilities for students. Most of these hostels house both Russian and international students. Due to a recent increase in the number of students the hostels are usually full, but however the university houses a special accommodation service which provides students with comfortable flats to rent
About City
Volgograd (in 1589-1925 – Tsaritsyn, in 1925-1961 – Stalingrad) is a city in Russia, the capital of the Volgograd region located in the southeast of the European part of Russia, on the banks of the Volga River. Volgograd has the status of “Hero City” because of the Battle of Stalingrad that took place here during the Second World War.
Volgograd has a hot-summer humid continental climate The city is only slightly warmer than Minneapolis (both in summer and winter, but transitional seasons are almost identical) at the same time that despite being taxed “moist” is drier than most of the climate of group D due to proximity to the Middle East and Central Asia
